Student Wardrobe Essentials
Safety Wear
There's only one you! In order to keep you safe, all colleges and universities have strict policies around safety wear. It may be tempting to think that if your chosen course doesn't involve riding then you won't need to worry, but hold your horses... Whether you'll be schooling, long reining or simply just leading out, you will be required to wear a riding hat that meets current standards and a dark pair of gloves. Selected courses will also include jumping, for which a 2009 (or 2018) Level 3 body protector is mandatory.

Yard Wellies
Almost all equestrian courses contain mandatory yard sessions or work experience. With this in mind, you'll need a good sturdy pair of wellies! While it might be tempting to choose the prettiest print or brightest colour, plain and practical is the aim of the game! There's no denying these will be a little boring, but when you're still comfortable after a long day on your feet, it's worth it!

Riding Boots
Ready to put your best foot forward as you enter the new term? All riders will be required to wear either tall boots or short boots with half chaps. Some institutions ask that you do not wear laced footwear, as these can become caught when riding. So, we'd suggest opting for a traditional slip on or zip-up alternative. Don't forget, always pick leather or synthetic boots. Suede boots are not only tricky to clean but they rub sensitive horses, so their use may be prohibited.
Saddle & Stable Clothing
College and university yards are almost always run in keeping with professional standards. Great preparation for out there in the working world, you may be asked to wear a uniform, although some do permit smart polos, base layers and plain dark coloured legwear. Always check the guidance, but it's best practice to avoid excessive branding, sleeveless styles and eye-catching designs.
