So, there’s one piece of tack that we all use but none of us really give much thought to (until our instructors tell us we’ll be riding without them)… Of course we’re talking about stirrups! As horse riders we’ve all dreaded the discomfort of dismounting! Stiff ankles and aching knees are just something we’ve come to expect as riders and there’s nothing that can be done about it, right? Nope!
Who are Freejump?
Founded in 2001 Freejump was created with the aim of challenging conventional approaches, bringing some new and exciting ideas to the equestrian world. Focused on improving the performance, comfort and safety of riders and horses, they're committed to meeting the needs of amateur and professional riders alike.
Why Choose Freejump
The truth is, they're not cheap! Compared to traditional options, these stirrups have a hefty price tag. While you might be tempted to let this scare you off, it's not without good reason!

High Quality Materials
Leather - Sustainable and environmentally friendly, their stirrup leathers are manufactured using high quality vegetal leather. Usually, heavy metals such as chromium are used in the manufacturing of leathers. Harmful waste products are then discharged by the tanneries to nearby rivers, polluting water and soil. Vegetal leather is tanned using active vegetal components, which are much less damaging. So, you can rest assured that no harmful materials are used in their production. Keeping the planet, those who produce the leather and yourself as the user safe.
Steel - Manufactured using aircraft-grade tempered spring steel with extra high mechanical resistance (1200 MPa).
Elastollan® - The patented flexible outer branch is made using Elastollan® (selected styles). Exclusive to free jump, this helps to release the foot in the event of a fall.

Flexible Branch
Safety first! If you've ever been unlucky enough to experience it, you'll know that getting your foot caught in your stirrup in the event of a fall is a hugely scary and very dangerous situation. Designed to prevent this, selected Freejump stirrups feature a flexible outer branch. Designed so that pressure from the foot opens it, helping you to avoid being dragged along by your horse.
Studs
Created for better grip to help prevent you loosing your stirrups, they feature studs based on the technology used for downhill mountain biking pedals. Offering steel studs (for the Soft’Up Pro and Soft’Up Classic stirrups) or moulded studs (Soft’Up Lite stirrups) they provide traction without causing added wear to your riding boots.
Centre Of Gravity
No more being shouted at for having the feet of a ballet dancer, rather than a rider! The eye of the stirrup is purposely further forward than the tread, this means that the centre of gravity is offset. This encourages you to keep your heels down in the correct position.
Single Branch Design
Continuous research has enabled Freejump to identify the maximum stress that a stirrup can withstand (from impact and from fatigue). Their single-branch stirrups are consequently made from steel (for the Soft’Up Pro and Soft’Up Classic stirrups) or from long-fibre polyamide (Soft’Up Lite stirrups). These materials have been developed to respond to these levels of stress, incorporating shock absorption. Three times more cushioning then a traditional stirrup, they relieve pressure on your joints and your horse’s back.

FreeJump Stirrup Leathers
Offering a single strap and extra wide design, Pro Grip Leathers provide unbeatable rider comfort. This clever construction means that they're guaranteed not to twist. The upper section uses a biothane backing, providing reinforcement. This allows the holes to be placed closer together, without compromising the strength and durability of the leather. As a result, they have 30 holes instead of 20 like traditional alternatives. Far more adaptable, you'll be able to find the perfect length for you. As the name suggests, they're designed for grip. Optional pads attach to the leathers using Velcro, created using a special rubber material they help to keep your lower leg steadier.
A new design, Freejump Classic Wide Leathers promote comfort, stability and balance. Over the years stirrup leathers have been made thinner, so that they look more aesthetically pleasing. This is all well and good, but unfortunately it also makes them far less practical.
Turning back the clock, Freejump leathers are about substance over style. As a result they’re much thicker than the alternatives, at 35mm in width. Manufactured using supple vegetal leather with a Nylon backing for strength and integrity, the holes are just 15mm apart allowing you to adjust the length more precisely.
